Celebrating Black History Month Through Music

February 27, 2023

At the R&DE Black History Month Celebration, "Celebrating Black History through Music," Professor Adam Banks delighted and educated staff with an exploration of the centrality of music to the Black experience in America and the ways music is used to express joy and pain and aspirations for a more just and equitable society. It was hard to resist moving to the groove across genres from gospel to blues to funk and hip hop. Participants also enjoyed a Black History trivia game and delicious food prepared by Stanford Dining, Hospitality and Auxiliaries. The exhibit area included art by R&DE's own Robert Coles, and an information booth where staff could learn about the work of R&DE's affinity groups. A good time was had by all!
