Summer quarter housing assignments will be announced on May 23, 2026.
Eligibility for Undergraduate Summer Quarter 2026 Housing
Stanford Students
Stanford students living in housing spring quarter and the upcoming autumn quarter are eligible to live in summer quarter housing regardless of their enrollment status. These students may choose an 8 or 10-week contract.
Additionally, Stanford students living in spring quarter housing who graduate in June are eligible to live in summer quarter housing. These students may choose an 8 or 10-week contract.
Students in undergraduate spring quarter housing who are transitioning from undergraduate to graduate status as newly admitted graduate students (including coterms) can only apply for undergraduate summer housing. Students assigned to graduate housing for the 2026-2027 academic year will move to graduate housing in mid to late summer.
Important: All Stanford students living in housing spring quarter and assigned housing for summer quarter are required to pay for the spring-summer interim period and be available to move to their summer assignment on a specific day during this period. See below for details.
Visiting Students
Over the summer, Stanford welcomes students from other universities who are participating in the Stanford Summer Session program. These students are eligible to live in Stanford housing on an 8-week contract.
Summer Housing Assignments Process
How to Apply
To submit your Undergraduate Summer Housing Application:
Log onto MyHousing.Stanford.edu
Select Undergraduate Summer Housing Application
Select Summer Quarter 2026
Follow the prompts to apply for housing
Be sure that you submit the application
Summer quarter housing applications are due April 14, 2026, for students not seeking disability accommodations. Stanford students applying for both summer and autumn quarter housing must file two applications, one for summer quarter and one for autumn quarter.
The Summer Housing Allocation process uses a computer-based assignment program that prioritizes students' first choice of residence listed on their housing application. If the first choice is unavailable, the program will move on to the second choice and so on. It is recommended that students create a comprehensive list of preferred residences in order of priority.
Students will be assigned housing based on their cohort and housing allocation number. For Stanford students, the housing allocation number is based on class year, with current and rising-seniors getting the best numbers. Visiting students are assigned a random housing allocation number. If a student is currently living in a summer housing location and they rank their current housing assignment as their first choice, they will receive a priority to remain in that residence and room for summer quarter. A priority is not a guarantee so all students should create a robust list of housing choices on their housing applications.
Reassignments
Reassignments are offered to matriculated Stanford students after initial summer housing assignments have been completed and demand from unassigned students has been met. Requests will be accepted through June 5, 2026.
How the Reassignment Process Works
Reassignment requests are submitted through MyHousing:
Log in to MyHousing.Stanford.edu
Select the Undergraduate Summer Housing Application
Click Continue on your summer quarter application
Select Apply for Reassignment
List the specific residences you are willing to move to
Submit your request by the reassignment deadline
You will only be considered for the residences you list and should only list residences you are willing to move to.
Reassignments are made on a rolling basis and are based on available space across summer housing, cohort, and the date the reassignment request was submitted. Reassignments are not guaranteed and depend entirely on housing availability. If a reassignment is made, the student’s housing assignment will be automatically updated and reflected in MyHousing. Reassignments will not be processed after June 12, 2026.
Housing Accommodations
Disability Accommodations
Students who have specific housing needs due to a medically documented disability should file a summer quarter Housing Accommodation Request Form with the Office of Accessible Education by March 6, 2026, and apply for housing in Axess by March 13, 2026.
Religious Observance Request
Stanford is a diverse community with students from many religious backgrounds. We understand that some students may desire specific housing placements or modifications due to their religious beliefs or practices. The application outlines what religious observance requests can be made at Stanford in summer undergraduate housing and the process for registering such a request. Be sure to read the religious observance request page carefully and follow all of the steps if you are interested in making a religious observance request for housing. Please note the deadline to apply for summer quarter housing with a religious observance request is Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Groups and Roommate Finding
Applying as a Group
Stanford Students Only
On your application, you will be able to form a group by clicking “Roommate Groups (Optional)” after submitting your application. Groups can be composed of up to four students. Students who receive early housing assignments (including pre-assigned students, students requesting disability accommodations, and/or students with religious observance requests) are not eligible to form or join a roommate group. If you are the first of your group to apply, you will establish a group name and password. If you are joining a group, you will enter the name and password established by the first group member to apply.
Roommate Finding
Stanford Students Only
On your application, you will be asked to answer a series of profile questions. These questions can help you if you do not currently have a housing group and are looking to find someone with whom to form a group. While everyone is required to answer the questions, you can choose to hide this information from other students.
To use the roommate finding function, select “Roommate Groups (Optional)” after submitting your application and then click “Suggest Roommates.” Based on your responses, you will see a compatibility percentage for other students who have submitted applications and chosen not to keep their profile information hidden. The number of students visible in roommate finding will increase as more students submit applications. While students’ names are not visible in roommate finding, you can see students’ gender identity and cohort, as well as their responses to the profile questions. If you would like to form a group with someone, you can send them a message through the housing system in order to introduce yourself. To check for received messages, click the hamburger menu next to Home and select “Messages.” Please note that messages sent through the housing portal are accessible to R&DE Student Housing Assignments. Please exercise caution if you mutually determine to communicate outside of the housing portal.
Group Tips
Students in groups are encouraged to:
- Stay in contact with your group to ensure your choices are the same (if desired).
- Verify that each person in your group applies by the deadline and receives a confirmation email after submitting the housing application.
- Larger groups are more likely to be split or to be assigned to a lower-ranked choice, as there are a limited number of spaces available in each residence and room type, and these are further divided by gender. Students can edit their applications, including group information, up until the April 14, 2026 application deadline.
“
I can’t imagine my Stanford experience without on-campus housing. Living alone is a new experience for me, and it’s great to make friends to share that with. Resident fellows do a great job of creating fun and educational programming. It’s the perfect excuse to step away from studying and engage with my neighbors.
