Disability and Leave Management Standards and Practices

January’s session focuses Stanford and R&DE’s Disability and Leave Management Program with emphasis on standards and practices. Common terminology, defensible reporting and documentation, key roles and responsibilities and compliance to Federal and State laws will be cover as part of the learning objectives. Absence One, Stanford’s new disability leave administrator and their administrative leave process role will be highlighted during this session.

R&DE’s Five-Step Continuum Recruitment & Selection Standards and Process

Recruitment refers to the process of developing a pool of qualified and diverse applicants interested in applying for a vacant position and from which a short-list of candidates are established for selection of the best individual qualified for the position. February’s session provides you with an overview and updates of R&DE’s Five-Step Continuum Recruitment Program. Key HR and managerial responsibilities; EEOC law updates and DEI best practices will be covered as well. 

This session is a good introduction to next month’s topic: “R&DE’s Inclusive Search Committee Practices,” - addressing the complexity and value-add of diversity, equity and inclusion in candidate assessment and selection.

R&DE’s Inclusive Search Committee Process and Practices Refresher

The selection process helps identify the best candidate or candidates for a vacant position, from among a pool of qualified applicants established during the recruitment process. During this session, you will learn about R&DE’s Inclusive Search Committee Process and Practices, including specific role and responsibilities of R&DE HR, the hiring manager and selection committee members. Interview guidelines and etiquette; implicit bias awareness; interview questions do’s and don’ts; and R&DE branding tips and strategies that optimizes candidate experience will be covered.

The Legal Work Environment: Employment Law for Managers

This session provides managers with an overview of the legal context of 21st century higher education organizations. Key employment laws (Title VII, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Covid-19 will be covered. Additionally, managers will understand and practice their university stewardship roles by enforcing and role-modeling key policies to minimize risk and liability.

Managing the Collective Bargaining Agreement

This session provides managers of union employees an overview of key labor relations concepts and practices including a review of most relevant contract language and their application. Managers will practice interpersonal relationship and communication skills to sustain positive and productive work relationships with local union stewards to jointly address and resolve conflict and issues.

Addressing & Documenting Conduct & Performance Issues (AG 2.1.16)

R&DE employees are committed to advancing Stanford and R&DE’s mission and vision while role-modeling R&DE Core Values and meeting performance expectations. This session provides a framework to communicate performance expectations, address and document employee gaps against standards (e.g. conduct and performance issues). In addition to reviewing key points from Administrative Guide 2.1.16, participants will learn the key elements that make-up a fair and defensible performance issue documentation and follow-up.
