R&DE Juneteenth & Multicultural Event
June 26, 2024
On June 26, R&DE hosted its annual Juneteenth & Multicultural Celebration at the EVGR Pavilion, bringing together staff to commemorate Juneteenth and celebrate diversity. The event featured a fireside chat with Professor Ralph Richard Banks, Co-Founder and Faculty Director of the Stanford Center for Racial Justice, who shared powerful insights into racial justice and unity. Attendees also participated in a Juneteenth-inspired art activity and R&DE trivia, followed by festivities in the Pub Courtyard, where they enjoyed live music, an art display, and multicultural cuisine.
The celebration concluded Stanford’s 2024 Juneteenth events, honoring the university-wide theme, "Unity in Freedom: A Juneteenth Commemoration." This year's events reflected the spirit of Juneteenth, which commemorates the day African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally freed under General Order No. 3 on June 19, 1865. The R&DE celebration also marked the culmination of the year-long DEIB Educational Plan, embracing the rich cultural tapestry of R&DE staff and reinforcing the core value of "Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging."
