Architecture and Design
The Architecture & Design team is a dedicated group of licensed architects, designers, and drafters who support all interior and exterior design initiatives across Stanford Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) facilities. They uphold system-wide standards and specifications for furnishings, finishes, and artwork while ensuring that modernization, accessibility, and historical preservation remain at the core of every project.
Designers in Motion: Crafting Timeless Spaces
Our team of expert architects, designers, and drafters focus on three key areas:
- We recognize that the built environment plays a crucial role in fostering community, connection, and well-being. Our designs go beyond functionality to create spaces that make every student feel valued, included, and supported in their residential and learning experiences by incorporating elements that ensure that every student has a welcoming and supportive environment in which to thrive.
- Balancing Modernization with Preservation – On a campus rich in architectural heritage, our team carefully restores and repurposes historic elements while integrating modern upgrades. We work closely with the University Architect’s Office to ensure that renovations maintain Stanford’s architectural integrity, such as salvaging and reinstalling historic materials or creatively repurposing elements in new ways.
- Designing for Accessibility – We are committed to universal design principles, ensuring that all students, regardless of ability, can fully engage in campus life. Our team collaborates with the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) to create navigable spaces, sensory-friendly environments, and features that go beyond compliance standards to foster comfort and success for all residents.
By integrating functionality, sustainability, and, the Architecture & Design team ensures that every space—whether newly designed or carefully restored—enhances the Stanford experience for students today and generations to come.
