The Stanford Food Institute's programs focus on many areas of the food system, from food education, research, and flavor innovation to sustainable food practices, sourcing, and supply chain diversity across underrepresented groups.

SFI's work begins with the university and our collaborators across the seven schools and extends to the greater food production and distribution system, building a community of people working toward a more just and sustainable future.

Inspiring change through food education

The R&DE Teaching Kitchen @ Stanford serves as the university's culinary training hub, aiming to foster well-being and sustainable eating practices within the Stanford community and beyond by providing cooking classes that teach students, faculty, and staff the fundamentals of cooking delicious meals while emphasizing nutrition, sustainability, and kitchen safety.


Black Farmers

Equitable Harvest and the Black Farmers Initiative is a groundbreaking collaboration making important strides toward rectifying historical injustices and ensuring a brighter future for Black farmers. Agriculture has been a cornerstone of our nation’s growth and prosperity, yet Black farmers have faced systemic discrimination and unequal access to resources for far too long. The initiative promises an unwavering commitment to establishing a comprehensive and long-term program crucial to the future of farming. It presents a unique opportunity to address these disparities by providing support to uplift Black farmers and educate the public on the importance of diverse food sourcing.


One Plate, One Planet

One Plate, One Planet is an award-winning food program focusing on sustainable food practices with a global perspective, taking a comprehensive approach to implementing sustainable, ethical, healthy food systems at scale. Emphasizing partnerships, collaboration, and innovative strategies across six pillars, it drives collective action to inspire the next generation and create a better food future.


Stanford Flavor Lab

The Stanford Flavor Lab serves as Residential & Dining Enterprises Stanford Dining's innovative research and development kitchen, where we test equipment with manufacturers and develop new programs, forward-thinking eating experiences, and exciting new menu items that support our culinary, nutrition, and sustainable food ethos and values. It is also a professional collaborative space for sharing ideas and trends.
