Graduate Housing Eligibility and Guarantee for Summer Quarter

Over the summer, graduate housing is home to graduate students remaining in housing after the academic year, new students whose programs begin over the summer months, visiting students, and other university affiliates with student status.

Single Graduate Student Summer Eligibility and Guarantee

  • Stanford matriculated graduate students with programs that begin in summer or autumn quarters are eligible for summer housing and guaranteed if they apply by the first round deadline, May 3, 2023.
  • Summer Visitors and students from other institutions enrolled as graduate students through Stanford Summer Session, are eligible for summer housing and guaranteed if they apply by the first round deadline, May 3, 2023. 
  • Non-matriculated students are eligible for housing but are not guaranteed and are assigned after matriculated students. 
  • Stanford affiliates who do not have student status are not eligible for Student Housing.
  • Co-terminal students living in undergraduate housing and students transitioning from undergraduate to graduate status as newly admitted graduate students can only apply for undergraduate housing. Students assigned to graduate housing for the 2023-2024 academic year will move to graduate housing in mid to late summer.
  • Incoming graduate students for the autumn can apply for summer housing. They will not, however, have access to university facilities such as gyms, libraries, etc. until they are enrolled. 
  • Summer contracts are for 8 weeks, ending August 20, 2023. Students with autumn quarter assignments may select a 10-week contract which will end on September 1, the same day their autumn quarter contracts will begin.

Couples without Children Summer Eligibility and Guarantee

  • Stanford students who are married or in a domestic partnership with a partner who will co-occupy an apartment with them at least 50% of each week, and whose programs begin summer or autumn quarters are eligible to live in couples without children housing. A domestic partnership is defined as two adults who have chosen to share one another's lives in an intimate and committed relationship.
  • Couples housing is not intended for friend pairs, siblings, parents, or members of a student's extended family.
  • Undergraduates may not apply for couples housing for summer if they are currently in single student housing and are applying for single student housing for the following year.  
  • Stanford two-student couples who choose not to live together on an ongoing basis cannot live in couples housing for the summer only.
  • Due to limited space, students applying for this type of housing are not guaranteed summer housing. Priority for assignment goes to students who are enrolled in classes during the summer months.
  • Incoming graduate students for the autumn can apply for summer housing. They will not, however, have access to University facilities such as gyms, libraries, etc. until they are enrolled. 
  • Students needing couples without children housing should apply by the first round deadline, May 3, 2023.

Students with Children Summer Eligibility and Guarantee

  • Stanford students who have children and are enrolled in programs that begin summer or autumn quarters are eligible for students with children housing.
  • Due to limited space, students applying for this type of housing are not guaranteed summer housing. Priority for assignment goes to students who are enrolled in classes during the summer months.
  • Incoming graduate students for the autumn can apply for summer housing. They will not, however, have access to University facilities such as gyms, libraries, etc. until they are enrolled. 
  • Students needing students with children housing should apply by the first round deadline, May 3, 2023.
