Shelter in Place

  • Use an interior room above ground
  • Bring your phone
  • Close doors, windows, and shades
  • Wait for official all-clear

Power Outages

  • Call (650) 725-1602
  • Use flashlights (not candles)
  • Unplug electronics, check AlertSU for updates

Earthquakes

Before: Secure furniture, keep emergency kit, avoid overhead storage

During: Drop, Cover, Hold On. Stay inside unless unsafe

After: Evacuate to EAP, report hazards, tune to KZSU 90.1 FM

Submit a Fix-It Request for all non-urgent maintenance needs.

Quick Tips

  • Clogged drain: Try a plunger first
  • Garbage disposal: Switch off, remove blockage, press reset
  • Lights out: Use Fix-it
  • Overflowing toilet: Use a flange plunger, shut off water at base

Electrical Safety

  • ✅ Use UL-certified appliances and surge protectors
  • ⚠️ Avoid daisy-chaining extension cords
  • 🚫 Never run cords under rugs or through doors
  • Report hot or damaged outlets immediately

Mirrielees Residents: If your stove stops working (rooms x12 to x23), it may be triggered by the smoke detector. Submit a Fix-it to restore power.

Environmental Health: Asbestos Awareness

Stanford safely manages asbestos in older buildings. Follow these precautions:

  • 🚫 Do not drill into walls or ceilings
  • ❌ Avoid attics and crawl spaces
  • 🧹 Never sweep or vacuum ceiling plaster
