Welcome to the Farm! Whether you’re a new student or returning for another year, Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) is here to support your smooth transition into campus life. This guide will help you prepare, pack smart, and know what to expect as you settle into your Stanford home.

Before You Arrive

Some items are best purchased or coordinated after you’ve moved in. Here’s what to consider:

  • Shared items: Coordinate with your roommate(s) for shared items like microwaves or mini fridges.
  • Furnished rooms: All rooms are fully furnished. Furniture cannot be removed or stored.
  • Apartments: Kitchen supplies are not provided. Bring your own cookware and utensils.
  • Microwaves: Only provided in Munger Graduate Residence. Consider renting or buying after you arrive.

Bedding Essentials

Bring the following items for your bed:

  • Pillow and pillowcases
  • Mattress pad or bed topper
  • Sheets (see bed sizes below)
  • Comforter or blanket

Identification and Enrollment

  • If you already have a Stanford ID, bring it. Otherwise, bring a government-issued ID.
  • Confirm your housing contract start date in Axess before finalizing travel plans.
  • Ensure your enrollment status is active. You can’t check in if there's a hold on your account.
  • International students may check in before clearing a Bechtel International Center hold.

Optional: Ship-to-School Service

Want to arrive without hauling heavy luggage? R&DE partners with Collegeboxes for Ship-to-School service. Your items are delivered directly to your residence room or apartment.

  • Package Centers do not accept packages before your official move-in date.
  • Ship-to-School is a separate service and requires a reservation.
  • Stanford is not liable for lost or damaged items.

What Not to Bring

To maintain safety and community standards, these items are not allowed:

  • Fire hazards: Candles, incense, hookahs
  • Unsafe electronics: E-bikes, hoverboards, halogen lamps
  • Prohibited appliances: Hot plates, open heating elements
  • Furniture: Lofted beds not provided by the university
  • Animals: No pets allowed (including fish)
  • Chemicals: Gasoline, charcoal fluid, mercury thermometers
  • Weapons: Firearms, knives, etc.
