Over the summer, undergraduate housing is home to Stanford students, recent Stanford grads, visiting students enrolled through Stanford Summer Session, and high school students taking Stanford classes. Undergraduate housing is for single undergraduate students. Graduate students, couples, families, and undergraduate students who are 25 years old or older should apply for graduate housing.

Stanford Undergraduate Summer Eligibility and Guarantee.

  • Stanford undergraduate students (students pursuing degrees at Stanford University) who are enrolled for spring quarter and will be enrolled for autumn quarter can apply to stay on campus for summer quarter. They can choose between three contract lengths:
    • 8-week (ending August 19, 2018),
    • 10-week (ending September 4, 2018)
    • 10-week plus interim that connects their summer and autumn contracts. The interim contract runs until the autumn quarter contract begins on September 21, 2018. Students staying in housing through the interim period often have to move as not all housing locations are open during the interim period.
  • Students who are graduating in June are welcome to stay for summer quarter but are only eligible for an 8-week contract, ending August 19, 2018.
  • Enrollment in classes is not required for Stanford students in summer housing; however, students enrolled in classes have priority for housing.
  • All students in housing spring quarter who are assigned to housing for the summer quarter will have continuous housing contracts from the end of spring to the beginning of summer. There is no option to waive or decline housing for this time period. Students are billed for the spring-summer interim period.
  • Students who wish to remain on campus through the summer-autumn interim period (September 4 - September 21, 2018) but are assigned to a building that is only open for 10 weeks will have to move to a different residence at the end of their 10 week contract before moving again into their autumn quarter housing assignment.
  • Co-terminal students living in undergraduate housing and students transitioning from undergraduate to graduate status as newly admitted graduate students can only apply for undergraduate housing. Students assigned to graduate housing for 2018-19 will move to graduate housing mid-summer.
  • Undergraduate housing is for single students only. Couples, families, and undergraduates who are 25 years old or older should see the summer graduate housing section. Stanford students are guaranteed housing if they apply by the first-round deadline, May 7, 2018, and indicate on their applications that they are willing to live in any residence for which they are eligible. Stanford students who apply after May 7, 2018 will be considered for assignment in the order in which their applications were received with priority given to enrolled students.

Summer Visitor Eligibility and Guarantee

  • In order to be eligible for summer housing, summer visitors must be enrolled in classes, have official student status through Stanford Summer Session, and take at least 3 units.
  • Summer visitors are only eligible for a housing contract length that matches the length of their course of study. This is typically 8 weeks, although in some cases it can be 9 weeks.
  • Undergraduate housing is for single students only. Couples, families, and undergraduates who are 25 years old or older should see the summer graduate housing section. Summer visitors are guaranteed housing if they apply by the first-round deadline, May 7, 2018, and indicate on their applications that they are willing to live in any residence for which they are eligible. Students who apply after May 7, 2018 will be considered for assignment in the order in which their applications were received.

High School Summer College Program Eligibility and Guarantee

  • Students enrolled in the High School Summer College program for high school students can apply for summer housing within the residence(s) reserved for the program, with a contract length that matches the length of the courses being taken. This is typically 8 weeks, although in some cases it can be 9 weeks.
  • Students enrolled in the High School Summer College program are guaranteed housing if they apply by the first round deadline, May 7, 2018.
