Waiting List and Continuous Assignment Rounds

Undergraduate Assignment Rounds

Autumn Quarter

Upperclass students who need housing for autumn quarter should apply for housing during The Autumn Draw, which normally takes place annually in April and early May.

Students who are unassigned after The Autumn Draw and students who miss the Autumn Draw deadline can still apply for autumn quarter housing and participate in the second assignment round (Autumn Second Round). To participate in the second round, students must apply before the Second Round application deadline (usually) in early July. Students with guarantee years remaining must apply by the Second Round application deadline and indicate a willingness to live in any housing for which they are eligible in order to be guaranteed a spot in housing for autumn quarter.

Students who are unassigned after the Second Round and students who missed the Second Round application deadline can apply for the third assignment round (Rolling Assignments). The Rolling Assignments round occurs bi-weekly through August, then occurs daily in early September and continues through the fifth week of autumn quarter. If a student cannot be assigned by the end of the fifth week, that student will need to transfer their application to winter quarter.

Winter Quarter

The first assignment round for winter quarter is the Winter Second Round. To participate in the Winter Second Round students must apply before the Winter Second Round deadline, usually in late October. Students with guarantee years remaining must apply by the Winter Second Round application deadline and indicate a willingness to live in any housing for which they are eligible in order to be guaranteed a spot in housing for winter quarter.

Students who are unassigned after the Second Round and students who missed the Second Round application deadline can apply for the second assignment round (Rolling Assignments). The Rolling Assignments Round continues bi-weekly through December, then daily from the beginning of January through the fifth week of winter quarter. If a student cannot be assigned by the end of the fifth week, that student will need to transfer their application to spring quarter.

Spring Quarter

The first assignment round for spring quarter is the Spring Second Round. To participate in the Spring Second Round students must apply before the Spring Second Round application deadline in early February. Students with guarantee years remaining must apply by the Spring Scond Round application deadline and indicate a willingness to live in any housing for which they are eligible in order to be guaranteed a spot in housing for spring quarter.

Students who are unassigned after the Second Round and students who missed the Second Round application deadline can apply for the second assignment round (Rolling Assignments). The Rolling Assignments Round occurs daily from mid-March and continues through the fifth week of spring quarter. If a student cannot be assigned by the end of the fifth week, that student will not be able to be accommodated in housing.

Tiers and Application Numbers

Students who apply during the Autumn Draw, Winter Second Round, or Spring Second Round can pick a tier level on their application if they have a housing guarantee year remaining. The tier level dictates the range of numbers from which a student's random application number will be chosen. Applications are considered in application number order so the lower the application number, the sooner a student's application is considered. Tier 1 encompasses application numbers 1-1000, Tier 2 1001-2000, Tier 3 2001-3000. Students can only use Tier 1 once and must use Tier 3 at least once during their Stanford career. Rising sophomores are not eligible to use Tier 1.

Students who apply outside of The Autumn Draw, Winter Second Round, and Spring Second Round are assigned a sequential number over 3500 depending on the date their application is submitted.
