Go cashless at R&DE retail locations
Purchasing Cardinal Dollars, loaded on your Stanford ID card, provides the security and convenience of a debit card. Swipe your Stanford ID card to spend Cardinal Dollars at any R&DE Stanford Hospitality retail location as well as athletic concessions stands at Stanford Stadium, Maples Pavilion and Sunken Diamond. Cardinal dollars expire August 31 of the fiscal year, and you can reload additional Cardinal Dollars at any time. Anyone with Cardinal Dollars including students may use Cardinal Dollars to purchase non-food items (such as sundries at Market – chapstick, Advil, etc). Cardinal Dollars are essentially the same as cash so it can be used for anything.
Stanford Students: Pay no sales tax* when you show your valid student ID
CA Sales Tax Regulation 1603 (k) provides a sales tax exemption for meals served to currently registered Stanford University students by Stanford-owned and -operated food outlets. In order to obtain this exemption, students must present their student ID at time of service. *Alcoholic and carbonated beverages and food products sold or served in a venue where an admission fee is charged upon entrance are subject to sales tax regardless of student status. Third party vendors require that all patrons, including students, pay sales tax.
Meal Plan Dollars
Many R&DE retail locations also accept the Meal Plan dollars that come with your dining meal plan, providing students the flexibility to purchase lunch, a healthy snack or beverage on-the-go without having to return to a dining hall. Students, staff and faculty can also purchase Cardinal Dollars in person by visiting the Meal Plan Customer Service Office on the first floor of Arrillaga Family Dining Commons (489 Arguello Way, Stanford, CA 94305), by calling the Meal Plan Customer Service line at (650) 723-4751, or by emailing diningplans@stanford.edu. Personal checks and credit cards are accepted.

Expiration
Cardinal Dollars expire August 16, 2024.
Meal Plan Dollars carry over at the end of each quarter and can be used throughout the academic year as long as you are enrolled in a meal plan. Meal Plan Dollars expire at the end of summer quarter, as long as you are continuously enrolled in a meal plan.
