Shirley J. Everett, Ed.D, MBA

Senior Associate Vice Provost for Residential & Dining Enterprises

Founder and Host, Women's Leadership Development Program and Women’s Leadership Summit, Stanford University

Dr. Shirley J. Everett is a visionary and transformational leader who leads a diverse and talented team of over 1,200 dedicated staff members in creating a culture of excellence. As the Senior Associate Vice Provost for Residential and Dining Enterprises (R&DE), she is the steward of a $3B asset portfolio and is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of Stanford’s largest auxiliary. 

Dr. Everett has transformed R&DE into a recognized industry leader with a keen focus on the mantra of “students first” by providing delicious, healthy, and sustainable food choices and safe and well-maintained residential environments, while diligently working to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) for students, staff, and the Stanford Community. She is a strong advocate of DEI – which are part of R&DE’s core values and initiatives. Dr. Everett inspires her leadership team to create an inclusive environment for all staff, especially staff of color, to feel a sense of belonging and empowerment to thrive. 

She serves as Senior Advisor to the Provost on Equity and Inclusion, and as a Senior Advisor to the IDEAL Advisory Committee. She is a member of the President’s Black Community Council, charged with engaging Black alumni, students, staff, and faculty, and providing oversight of initiatives focused on supporting the Black community. Dr. Everett has received numerous awards including the 2022 Kenneth Cuthbertson Award for Exceptional Contributions to the University and the 2022 President’s Award of Excellence through Diversity, and has demonstrated during her 32 years in leadership at Stanford that DEIB are essential priorities for eradicating racism and discrimination in all forms. 

Dr. Everett also serves as a member of the President’s Full Cabinet and the Board of Directors of the Stanford Federal Credit Union. She earned both her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College of California. 

 

 

Tricia Montalvo Timm, JD

Keynote Speaker
Board Member, General Counsel, Investor, Author of Best-Seller "Embrace the Power of You"

Tricia Montalvo Timm is a board director, venture investor, speaker and author. She is a first-generation Latina who rose through the ranks of Silicon Valley, advising high-tech companies big and small, culminating in the sale of data analytics software company Looker to Google for $2.6 billion, Google’s fourth largest acquisition. She is one of the few Latinas to have attained the triple achievement of reaching the C-suite, joining the boardroom and cracking the venture capital ceiling.

Tricia currently serves on the board of directors at Salsify, a top enterprise software company. She is also an advocate for women and girls and serves as a mentor, advisor and investor in female-founded companies.

Tricia’s industry recognitions include the 2020 Women of Influence and Latino Business Leadership awards from Silicon Valley Business Journal and the title of Diversity Champion from the SVBJ Corporate Counsel Awards.

With her new best-selling book, "Embrace the Power of You," she hopes to inspire anyone who has ever felt like an “other” in the workplace to embrace their true self, own their identity, and achieve success and fulfillment in their life and career.

 

 

Jan Barker Alexander, M. Ed.

Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Pitzer College

Jan Barker Alexander is currently on a one-year assignment as Vice President & Dean of Students at Pitzer College. She recently served as the inaugural Executive Associate Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion in the newly created Division of Inclusion, Civil Rights & Title IX at Louisiana State University. Previously, she was Stanford's Assistant Vice Provost and Executive Director of the Centers for Equity, Community & Leadership, and the Offices of First Generation and or Low-Income Programs, and Military-Affiliated Communities. For 20 years, Jan led the Black Community Services Center as Associate Dean of Students and Director. In 2006, Jan served as Resident Fellow (RF) at Ujamaa House, a role which has since been endowed and named after her.

Jan's impact at Stanford was recognized with the Lloyd W. Dinkelspiel Award for Distinctive Contributions to Undergraduate Education. She was later awarded the Kenneth M. Cuthbertson Award for unusually distinguished service, uncommon ingenuity in meeting University goals, and/or exceptional intelligence, diligence and sensitivity in discharging responsibilities. She is the first woman to receive both.

 

 

Adeline Bellot

Financial Advisor, Stanford Federal Investment Services, A division of Stanford Federal Credit Union

Adeline started her career as an LPL Financial Advisor in 2017 and joined Stanford Federal Investment Services in 2018. Her areas of focus include goal-based asset management, tax planning strategies, as well as retirement and legacy planning. As part of the Stanford Federal Investment Services team, she is passionate about helping clients work towards improving their financial lives and strives to guide them in managing their assets, especially during times of uncertainty and market volatility. She knows the importance of setting clear expectations and having consistent communications to support clients in developing a financial strategy that works for them. She is located at Stanford FCU’s Pampas Lane Branch, but is available by appointment in all other locations.

 

 

Alicia Black

Talent Development Program Manager, R&DE Human Resources 

Alicia Black is a council member of the Women’s Leadership Development Program and the Talent Development Program Manager within Residential & Dining Enterprises at Stanford University. As a change agent in the Learning and Talent Development Department she has been positioned to cultivate DEIB, and spearhead learning analytics and organizational change management. In Alicia’s 10 years within the Learning & Development space she has been accountable for strategic direction, implementation, support, and development of all training support operations. She leads, collaborates and builds relationships with cross functional teams and stakeholders. Alicia fosters a growth mindset by continuing her studies as a doctoral student in Organizational Change Leadership, where she hopes to defend her dissertation in Spring of 2025. She spends her other waking moments volunteering, being a dance mom, and leading by example within Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

 

 

Terry Braggs

Executive Chef Instructor, R&DE Stanford Dining, Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Food Institute, R&DE Mindfulness Team

Terry Braggs is the Executive Chef Instructor of the Stanford Food Institute located at EVGR’s teaching kitchen. Sharing the culinary experience he has gained over his 18-year journey as a chef and inspiring youth gives him great satisfaction. “Over the years I’ve accumulated so much knowledge in the kitchen it would be a crying shame to keep it all to myself.”

When not cooking, Terry enjoys California’s beautiful national parks, takes a meditation retreat, or indulges in his most recently interest, roller skating!

 

Dr. Fran'Cee Brown-McClure

Vice President for Student Affairs, Jackson State University

Dr. Fran’Cee Brown-McClure is Vice-President for Student Affairs at Jackson State University. Prior to joining the Jackson State University administration, Dr. Brown-McClure served as Vice-President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Union College, Dean of Students at Spelman College and Associate Dean of Residential Education at Stanford University

Dr. Brown-McClure received a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin in Educational Administration in 2015, a Masters of Social Work from Boston University in 2006, and Bachelor of Science in psychology from Jackson State University in 2004.

The most important role that Dr. Brown-McClure holds is mom. She is mother to her 14-year-old daughter, McKenzie. Every day she strives to give to students what she was given in college and what she hopes future leaders will give to future generations of students. 

 

 

Deborah Cullinan

Vice President for the Arts, Stanford University

Deborah Cullinan is one of the nation’s leading thinkers on the pivotal role artists and arts organizations can play in shaping our social and political landscape, and has spent years mobilizing communities through arts and culture. She joined Stanford University in early 2022 as the first full-time vice president for the arts. Previously, she was CEO of Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA), where she launched several bold new programs, engagement strategies, and civic coalitions. Prior to joining YBCA in 2013, she was the executive director of San Francisco’s Intersection for the Arts. She is a co-founder of CultureBank, board member of the Community Arts Stabilization Trust and EPACENTER, and recently served as co-chair of the San Francisco Arts Alliance and vice chair of the Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy.

 

 

Daniel Donguines

Executive Chef, R&DE Stanford Dining, Hospitality & Auxiliaries

Executive Chef Daniel Donguines oversees the culinary team at Lakeside Dining, Yost, Murray, and EAST dining, along with the Late Night Kitchen @ Lakeside. Chef Daniel serves as a culinary operations expert on the Menus of Change Research Collaborative and the Stanford Food Institute. His dedication extends into academia through research partnerships with Stanford's Graduate School of Business, aiming to reduce food waste and develop scalable, sustainable food systems by utilizing the dining halls as living laboratories. Chef Daniel's innovative approach strives to elevate campus dining experiences by embedding sustainability and efficiency at the heart of culinary operations.

 

 

Patrick Dunkley, JD

Vice Provost, Institutional Equity, Access and Community, Stanford University

Patrick Dunkley is the inaugural Vice Provost for Institutional Equity, Access, and Community, and Special Advisor to the President on Equity. He has also served as a member of Stanford’s Office of the General Counsel, and as Deputy Athletics Director/Legal Counsel for Stanford Athletics. In his current role he serves as the Executive Director of Stanford’s IDEAL (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access in a Learning environment) program. IDEAL is designed to create a campus environment in which all community members experience a living, learning, and working environment that is inclusive, welcoming, equitable, and has a sense of belonging. He also oversees the Sexual Harassment, Assault, Response and Education (SHARE) / Title IX Office; the Diversity and Access Office; and the university Ombuds Office. As Special Advisor to the President he consults with the president on equity and inclusion initiatives, he serves as chair or lead on several boards and task forces, and is a member of the University Cabinet, Executive Cabinet, and the Senior Staff.

 

Kristen Harris

COO and Co-Creator, Portfolio Creative

Kristen Harris brings together her extensive experience in creative industries and business leadership to help clients connect with top marketing and creative talent.

Portfolio Creative, an award-winning women-owned staffing and recruiting firm, specializes in connecting companies with talent across marketing, advertising, design, digital, communications, and creative technology. Through their expertise, they offer clients flexible solutions, including short- and long-term staffing, contract-to-hire, and direct-hire search.

More than just a leader, Kristen possesses a deep understanding of the creative industry. Her artistic background, including a BFA in Retail Advertising and thirteen years as a designer, art director, and creative manager, provides the foundation for her keen eye for talent. This passion for creativity, coupled with years of professional experience and a vision to bridge the gap between companies and creative talent, fueled her and Catherine Lang-Cline to establish Portfolio Creative in 2005. 

 

Tanya Holland

Host of Tanya's Kitchen Table on OWN, Host of Tanya's Table podcast, Contestant on Season 15 Top Chef on Bravo, Award Winning Chef, Author and Restauranteur

Author, entrepreneur, public speaker, and lecturer are a few of the hats Tanya Holland wears. Known for her inventive take on modern soul food, as well as comfort classics, she founded the famous and beloved Brown Sugar Kitchen restaurant in Oakland, California, which received multiple Michelin Bib Gourmand awards. She is the author of multiple cookbooks, including “Tanya Holland’s California Soul.” She competed on the fifteenth season of “Top Chef” on Bravo and serves on the Board of Trustees for the James Beard Foundation. Tanya holds a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Virginia, as well as a Grande Diplôme from La Varenne Ecole de Cuisine in Burgundy, France.

Tanya has been an agent for positive change in diversity, equity, and inclusion in the hospitality industry. At Stanford, she created the Red Skillet dining concept at Lakeside Dining and is a senior advisor to the Stanford Food Institute.

 

 

Michelle Ihrig

Senior General Manager, R&DE Stanford Dining, Hospitality & Auxiliaries

Michelle is on a mission to inspire connection. She is a Senior General Manager with SDHA and a council member of the Women’s Leadership Development Program. A lifelong learner with a desire to empower our best selves, she is an International Coaching Federation accredited professional coach, a neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) certified coach, The Connection Practice apprentice, and a Pranayama breathwork enthusiast. She co-founded WE, Women Empowered, a networking and learning group while working in Bangkok. She recently founded MC2 coaching, a name inspired by her children, which stands for her values of mindful, curious, and connected. Passionate about sustainability, Michelle believes the ‘who’ we choose to show up as is the gateway to influence positive change. She considers herself a global citizen having lived in 12 cities across 5 continents.

 

Michelle Lomeli

Housing Building Manager, R&DE Student Housing Operations and Stanford Conferences, WLDP Council Member, Stanford University

Michelle works as a R&DE Student Housing Building Manager at Duan Family Hall (EVGR, Bldg A) student residence. She is a proud member of the Women’s Leadership Development Program, helping to develop new ideas for the next generation of leaders. Michelle runs the global health initiative within R&DE Student Housing and can be found training and motivating the custodial staff to live their best life through community and health. She practices a "not me but we" philosophy, making personal connections between staff and colleagues the new norm. In her free time, she can be found on the trails, running distances of up to 240 miles. Michelle lives in San Jose with her husband and three boys.

 

Lori Nishiura Mackenzie

Co-Founder Stanford VMware Women’s Leadership Innovation Lab, Stanford University

Lori Nishiura Mackenzie is a speaker, researcher and change agent in diversity, equity and inclusion. She is co-founder of the Stanford VMware Women’s Leadership Innovation Lab, which creates impact research to understand the barriers to women’s advancement in order to build more inclusive workplaces and empower change agents.

Lori is a keynote speaker to a wide range of audiences. Lori’s expertise has been recognized as a 2022 LinkedIn Top Voice in Gender Equity, a BBC’s 100 Women in 2017, and in the award-winning documentary, bias (2018). In 2020, Lori was awarded the CEDAW Human Rights Award, Education, from the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women. Previously, Lori served as the executive director of the Clayman Institute for Gender Research. Lori has 20 years of marketing strategy and business management experience. She is a board member of the Alliance for Girls and the Center for Institutional Courage, and an advisor to August and Optionality. Lori has an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a BA in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

 

Cyndi McCollister

Custodial and Facilities Talent Development Program Manager, R&DE Student Housing Operations and Stanford Conferences

Cyndi McCollister is a founding member and co-chair of the Women’s Leadership Development Program within Residential & Dining Enterprises at Stanford University. She has made it her life’s work to help others love their jobs by getting the most out of it through personal and professional development. Cyndi works within R&DE Student Housing Operations and Stanford Conferences as the talent and development program manager.

She earned a Master of Public Administration degree from University of San Francisco. In 2018, Cyndi was awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council, Boy Scouts of America. This is the highest regional volunteer award possible. Her team won the Keith L. Guy Award for Exemplary Service in R&DE in 2012. 

 

Gail Mosse

Member, Board of Directors of Lawyers’ Mutual Insurance Company. Member, Board of Advisors of Launch Factory. Owner, Gail Mosse Legal Advisory and Consulting Practice.

Gail is a business-focused attorney, advisor and corporate director. Her legal advisory practice focuses on helping Internet companies innovate and scale. Gail’s expertise is enabling companies to adopt and develop emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, while mitigating risks, such as data privacy and security risks. Her technology deal work is substantial, approaching $1 billion annually.

Gail leverages her passion for technology as a director and advisor. She serves as an independent director of Lawyers’ Mutual Insurance Company, where she chairs the Underwriting Committee and serves on the Audit Committee which oversees enterprise risk and cybersecurity. She is an advisor to Launch Factory, a start-up venture studio that launches several technology start-ups per year. She earned her B.A. in Political Science and Economics, and her J.D. at Stanford.

Gail has served on the leadership teams of Stanford Women on Boards and How Women Lead's "Get on Board" week. 

 

Professor Margaret Neale

Adams Distinguished Professor of Management, Emerita Graduate School of Business, Stanford University

Margaret A. Neale is the Adams Distinguished Professor of Management, Emerita, at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. She was honored with the Distinguished Educator Award from the Academy of Management in 2019, the Robert T. Davis Award for Lifetime Achievement, and the Stanford Graduate School of Business Award for Contributions to Executive Education. She has served as the Academic Associate Dean of the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Prior to joining Stanford in 1995, she was the Kellogg Distinguished Professor of Dispute Resolution and Organizations at Northwestern University and on the faculty of the Eller School of Management of the University of Arizona.

She is the author of over seventy articles, one research series, and four books. Her most recent book, co-authored with Thomas Lys, "Getting (More of) What You Want" was published by Basic Books in July, 2015. She is the faculty director of Negotiation and Influence Strategies, Managing Teams for Innovation and Success, and the Executive Program in Women’s Leadership at Stanford.

 

Barbara Nelson

Board Director: Backblaze (Nasdaq: BLZE), GSI Technology (Nasdaq: GSIT), Oneview Healthcare (ASX: ONE), o8t - Omniscient Neurotechnology 

Barbara is a public board director and C-level technology leader, who currently serves on four corporate boards, including one which launched a successful IPO in 2021. She has been CEO twice and led global P&Ls as large as $3 billion in companies ranging from Fortune 500 to VC funded.

In these, she consistently secured the #1 market position, while delivering strong growth. From SaaS to OEM, enterprise to consumer, she has led strategy and business transformations in a broad range of industries and go-to-market models.

She has scaled from concept to over $100M - $200M, four times in three companies, delivering profitability each time.

She earned her B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford. 

 

Caitlin Price

Storyteller Associate Support Analyst, Giant Eagle

Caitlin Price joined the IT department at Giant Eagle, Inc., in October 2019 after spending 10 years in communications, marketing, and meeting planning for non-profit associations. Her background is in journalism, and she uses her writing skills and marketing and communications knowledge to drive ITSM organizational change management. While originally brought on as a technical writer at Giant Eagle, Caitlin now focuses on branding and the user experience to assist in IT awareness and educational efforts. She also brings her writing and communications knowledge to Stanford as a consultant for R&DE marketing and branding efforts. Caitlin obtained her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Ohio University's esteemed Scripps College of Communication and holds the IT-focused ITIL 4 Foundations and ITIL 4 Specialist: Drive Stakeholder Value certifications.

 

Alice Pyo

Outreach and Community Engagement Manager, R&DE Stanford Dining, Hospitality & Auxiliaries

Alice Pyo is the Outreach & Community Engagement Program Manager for R&DE Stanford Dining, Hospitality & Auxiliaries (SDHA). In her current role, she develops and implements outreach strategies that increase engagement and participation for key constituency groups, including managing the Stanford Food Institute internship program. Previously, Alice was a sous chef in the Stanford Flavor Lab, R&DE SDHA’s research and development kitchen. Where she ideated and prototyped innovative menus and processes to improve students’ dining experience, health and wellness, and food sustainability. Alice’s passion is in developing forward-thinking eating experiences – from both a chef’s perspective and as a program manager – that support R&DE SDHA’s culinary, nutrition and sustainable food ethos and values.

 

Paul Robles

Chief Information Officer, Residential & Dining Enterprises

Paul, a trailblazer in the field of technology and leadership for more than 30 years, currently serves as the CIO for R&DE.

Led by curiosity, a passion for innovation and a deep-seated commitment to higher education, student success, and the goal of making education more accessible, he consistently turns challenges into opportunities and leverages technology in support of the university’s mission.

Through authentic leadership, he has steered technology teams through a variety of priorities including the implementation of new Student Information Systems at UC Berkeley to adding dozens of new emerging technologies within R&DE due to the COVID pandemic lockdowns.

Paul is an advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in higher education technology. His journey from an engineering intern to CIO exemplifies his steadfast belief in breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for underrepresented groups, an ethos that he shares through mentorship and thought leadership. 

 

Joyce Sackey, MD, FACP

Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Stanford Medicine

Dr. Sackey is the inaugural Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer (CEDIO) for Stanford Medicine. She is Clinical Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean within the Stanford School of Medicine. As Stanford Medicine’s CEDIO, Sackey reports to Dean Lloyd Minor, and CEOs David Entwistle and Paul King, and she is responsible for designing, developing, and driving enterprise-wide strategies and efforts to advance inclusive excellence, health equity and justice. In addition, Sackey supports and unifies existing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts underway at the School of Medicine, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, and Stanford Health Care. She also provides oversight for the implementation of recommendations issued by the Commission on Justice and Equity.

 

Nancy Sheppard

CEO & Founder, Women2Boards & former CEO, Western Independent Bankers

Nancy founded Women2Boards in 2014 to support women leaders on their corporate board journey. She launched the San Francisco Annual Event for 2020 Women on Boards in 2016. Nancy designed the How Women Lead Corporate Board Readiness Workshop Program, which more than 800 women have completed, many of whom have taken their seat at the boardroom table. She coaches aspiring directors for the Athena Alliance, a membership organization that propels women leaders forward.

She was CEO of Western Independent Bankers for over 20 years. She served on two private company boards for financial institution products. She started her career in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington D.C.

She has served on numerous nonprofit boards and is a member of the Women’s Leadership Council for Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center which supports underserved women in their business endeavors. 

 

Jeanette Smith-Laws

Director, Operations and Student Unions, Student Affairs, Stanford University 

Jeanette Smith-Laws is the epitome of leadership excellence at Stanford, with over 40 years of dedicated service, she has left an indelible mark on the lives of thousands of students. Renowned for her knack for "getting things done" in Student Affairs, Jeanette is unwaveringly devoted to supporting students, staff, and colleagues.

As guardian of the student unions, Jeanette collaborates with stakeholders’ campus-wide to enrich the campus center community’s experience. She worked closely with students to create the Arbor outdoor bar entertainment venue at Tresidder and the On-Call Café, a student-run late-night hotspot in Old Union. Jeanette also serves on the Town Center task force, the UCLBD board, and the US Mail Summit, striving to enhance mail and package services on campus.

Jeanette is not just a powerhouse in leadership, she's also a fashion icon straight out of Vogue and sets an inspiring example of self-expression and personal style on campus. 

 

Amy Steagall

Chief Information Security Officer, Stanford University

Amy Steagall is the Stanford University Chief Information Security Officer. She is responsible for leading the Information Security Office and providing Stanford-wide leadership in information security strategy and operations.

Prior to joining Stanford University in 2020, Amy retired from the United States Air Force after 25 years of service. Throughout her career she led large organizations and teams culminating in her role at the Joint Force Headquarters-Cyber at NSA Texas where she led cyber mission teams operating in complex security environments and specializing in offensive and defensive cyberspace operations.

Amy holds a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Management and Policy from University of Maryland and is pursuing a Master of Science in Cybersecurity Law from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.

 

Dr. Ayodele Thomas

Vice President, IDEAL, University HR, Stanford University

Dr. Ayodele Thomas (she/her) is the inaugural Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in University Human Resources at Stanford University where she currently leads efforts to improve equity and inclusion for staff. For more than 30 years, Dr. Thomas has been dedicated to developing and implementing strategic, effective diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, inspired by her experiences as the first Black woman to receive a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. As a long-time member of the Stanford community, Dr. Thomas served for 16 years in the School of Humanities and Sciences and School of Medicine where she was a lecturer and oversaw academic student affairs for doctoral and master’s students. Since 2015, Ayodele has also served as the Executive Director for Greene Scholars, a unique long-term STEM enrichment program for Bay Area youth of African ancestry.

 

Ashley Thompson

J.D. Candidate, 2024, Stanford Law School

Ashley Thompson is a third-year law student at Stanford Law School. At Stanford Ashley serves as a Senior Editor of the Stanford Law Review, the former Gala Chair for the Black Law Students’ Association and works as a Teaching Assistant for the Martin Daniel Gould Center for Conflict Resolution. Before making her way to the Bay, Ashley attended Washington University in St. Louis where she received her B.A. in Political Science. She has a variety of legal interests such as civil rights litigation, labor and employment, youth law, and intellectual property litigation. Despite being a native of Harlem, New York, after law school Ashley plans to stay here in the Bay Area.

 

Daphne Williams

Housing Building Manager, R&DE Student Housing Operations and Stanford Conferences

Daphne has dedicated sixteen years to Stanford University, where she oversees Governor's Corner in R&DE Student Housing. She proudly contributes to the Women’s Leadership Development Program, bringing in innovative ideas for future leaders. Building strong relationships is at the core of everything I do, both in my work and personal life.
