Experience Adult Housing at Stanford

Comfortable summer accommodations for individual adults attending conferences, participating in programs, or academic activities on campus.

Stanford offers summer housing for Stanford-affiliated guests ages 18 and older who are participating in approved on-campus programs. Adult housing is designed to provide convenient, on-campus accommodations with a range of options to meet different preferences and budgets. A minimum stay of three nights is required.

Adult housing is available across several campus locations and includes multiple accommodation types, such as dormitory-style rooms with shared bathrooms and apartment-style housing with private bedrooms and private bathrooms. These options offer comfortable and practical living arrangements throughout the summer.

Housing Details

  • Available Dates:
    • Dormitory-Style Residence & EVGR-A Apartments: June 19 - August 28, 2026
    • EVGR-B Apartments & Munger Residences: June 19 - August 15, 2026
  • Duration: Minimum stay of Three (3) nights
  • Meals: Not included; residents can explore the various dining options on and around campus
  • No Smoking, Vaping, or Illegal Substances:
    Smoking, vaping, or the use of illegal substances is not permitted in any building or within 30 feet of any building entrance.
  • No Pets: No pets are allowed, even for a visit.
  • Dining Options: While meals are not included, there are several R&DE-operated cafés open during the summer, as well as other eateries located both on campus in the local Palo Alto community. Meal plans and Flex Dollars that can be used in R&DE-operated dining halls and cafés can be purchased in advance of arrival.
  • Parking: Participants are eligible to purchase residential parking permits to park close to their campus residence. Email summerhousing@stanford.edu for details.

Eligibility & Requirements

To qualify for Adult Summer Housing at Stanford, you must have a formal academic affiliation with the university or its associated hospitals. Proof of this affiliation is required with your application. Acceptable documents include:

  • Stanford Affiliates: Upload your offer letter or email from your professor or department. Alternatively, ask your professor to complete the Stanford Affiliation Form and submit it to you for upload.
  • Conference Participants: Upload your registration confirmation for un-housed conferences at Stanford.
  • Business Visitors: New staff or faculty needing temporary accommodations are also eligible.

Other Eligible Non-Stanford Student Summer Visitors:

  • Attendees of un-housed conferences or workshops
  • Individuals studying, working, or interning for a Stanford college or department
  • Researchers collaborating with Stanford faculty
  • Medical students in clerkships or observerships at Stanford
  • Stanford faculty and staff needing nearby accommodations

To complete your application, please read, sign, and submit the following required documents along with your application:

  1. Stanford University Liability Waiver Form
  2. Housing Policies and Services Form for Non-Stanford Student Summer Housing
  3. Stanford Affiliation Verification Form or Official Letter from a Stanford department or conference

Your application will not be processed without these signed forms. 

Application Steps & Rates

  1. Review Housing Options: Explore the available housing types and rates to find your preference.
  2. Check Eligibility: Ensure you meet all eligibility requirements for summer housing.
  3. Prepare Documents: Locate, print, sign, and save the necessary forms as PDFs.
  4. Complete Application Form: Fill out the application, select check-in/check-out dates, and attest to your eligibility.  
  5. Reservation Confirmation (Immediate upon payment): After submitting your full payment, the system will secure your housing reservation. If any of your documents need clarification, our office will reach out to you.
  6. Receive Additional Information Closer to Move-in Date: You will receive a series of emails after payment, along with additional housing information and check-in details.
  7. Prepare for Check-In: Gather necessary documents and be ready to show a government-issued photo ID upon arrival. Here's a suggested Move-in & Move-out Checklist

General Information

Housing Options: Adult Summer Housing offers four housing options: 1) Dorm-Style Residence: dorm-style room (single) with common bath located in an undergraduate housing facility in the west campus, or 2) EVGR-A Apartments: Private room & bath (single) in a shared apartment located in a graduate facility in the east campus, 3) EVGR-B Apartments: Apartment studio with kitchen and bath(single), also located in the east campus, or 4) Munger Residences: Apartment studio or one-bedroom for single or couple occupancy with kitchen and bath. Munger Residences is the only air-conditioned facility in summer housing.

Custodial staff provide daily cleaning of common areas around the residence, and weekly linen service exchanges are provided for all housing types.   

Check-ins & Check-outs: Check-in is available daily between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and check-out is required by 11:00 a.m., seven days a week. Guests who need to make advance arrangements should contact the Housing Service Center prior to arrival. Please note that check-in time on Friday, June 19, is NO LATER than 5:00 p.m.

Once your reservation is confirmed, please review the confirmation email for detailed check-in location information and additional instructions. An after-hours service team is available to assist with check-ins outside of regular office hours.

Payments: Accommodations require pre-payment in full prior to check-in. MasterCard, Visa and American Express are accepted online via a secure payment portal. PTAs and Cost Centers are also accepted. Departments can arrange internal charging by emailing summerhousing@stanford.edu.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be made at least fourteen (14) days before check-in date in writing by emailing summerhousing@stanford.edu. A refund will be given minus a 20% cancellation fee. No refunds will be given if reservations are canceled less than fourteen (14) days from the check-in date.

Guests: Overnight guests are not allowed in campus housing, and they are not permitted in the residence during quiet hours. Quiet hours are between 11:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. on weeknights (Sunday through Thursday) and between 1:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on weekends (Friday and Saturday). Any guest who stays overnight is deemed an unauthorized occupant, and you will be subject to unauthorized occupancy charges, which are $225/ day. You are responsible for ensuring that your guests depart before quiet hours begin and for their compliance with this guest policy.

Lost Key and/or Fob Fees: Keys and fobs MUST be returned upon check-out. Guests are required to accept liability for misplaced keys. If keys are not returned at check-out, guests will be charged for the cost of rekeying the room/apartment or the replacement of a building access fob. For security purposes, locks to rooms/apartments will be changed immediately once a key has been reported lost and/or after check-out if the key is not returned.

Mail & Packages: The Housing Service Center managing this residence cannot accept packages or mail. Please set up a P.O. Box at the US Post Office on campus located in Tresidder Memorial Union or ask your department sponsor to receive your mail on your behalf. Visitors can also use Amazon Lockers, with eight locker locations around campus. 

Meals: Stanford Dining, Hospitality, & Auxiliary Cafes are within walking distance to the residence. The Market at Munger is a convenient grocery located in the lobby of Jacobson-Sorensen Hall at Munger Graduate Residence, beside the Law School. Check for summer hours before visiting a cafe. Summer meal plans in a dining hall will be available for purchase from Stanford Dining starting in June.  Additional information will be sent to residents prior to their move-in date.    

Pets and Animals: Pets or live animals of any kind, including those housed in aquariums or terrariums, are prohibited in all university residences, unless they are a service animal approved by the Office of Accessible Education. If you are found to have a pet or live animal in residence, you will be charged an administrative fee of $100/day from the date it is discovered until it is permanently removed from your residence.  You will also be charged a mandatory cleaning fee due to the extra cleaning needed to bring the room or apartment back to a standard for a student who may have an animal allergy. Failure to comply may also result in losing housing privileges.
