Community Housing: Short-Term Visitors

Sublicense Opportunities in Graduate Student Housing

Graduate students living in student housing with a full-year license for a space in on-campus grad housing can find a non-undergrad, adult Stanford affiliate to sublicense if certain criteria are met. Only Stanford affiliates of graduate student age are eligible and rates charged cannot be higher than the rates paid by the students.  Gender, occupancy, and other limits apply.  During the Autumn and Winter quarters, only matriculated graduate students can contract for a sublicense until demand has been met from un-houses matriculated graduate students.

Housing for Non-Student Summer Visitors

Many individuals come to Stanford each summer to do research, work, or attend a conference which does not provide housing.  Limited accommodations are available to these Stanford affiliates.  Guests must be at least 18 years old, and there is a three-night minimum stay in all available non-student summer housing. Rates are higher than the student rates, as they are not subsidized by the University.  The application form and other details are available through the Stanford Conferences web site.

Dates correspond to the 8-week summer session, from approximately mid-June to approximately mid-August.  Housing is very limited, especially for guests under the age of 22.

Faculty and Staff Housing

Faculty and executive-level staff are eligible to rent or purchase faculty housing located on campus. There are condominiums, duplexes, and single family homes available, which may be advertised through any and all advertising resources.

Stanford Guest House

Stanford affiliates and visitors can stay at the Stanford Guest House, located off of Sand Hill Road near Highway 280.  There is a free shuttle to the main campus.  Amenities include free wired and wireless Internet, air conditioning, and cable television.

Off-Campus Rentals

Stanford has partnered with Places4Students to maintain a database of rentals advertised by local landlords who wish to rent to Stanford affiliates.  Only current and incoming Stanford affiliates can access the Stanford listings.  A Stanford email address is needed, but incoming affiliates who do not yet have a Stanford email address can contact the Community Housing office for access.
